One World. One Humanity. - A Call for Human Dignity, Unity & Peace

Human Dignity

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that ALL men [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." – Declaration of Independence, 1776


I wanted to issue a live statement, but every time I try to speak, my heart fails and I weep. But for such a time as this was TAC created. So, with a failing heart but resolute voice, I write the following statement on behalf of The Advocacy Center, Inc., our Managing Board of Directors and Working Board.


Across our country we are witnessing atrocious violations against the dignity of human life: a young man shot down in the streets, a young immigrant stabbed to death, and the cries of women’s voices overshadowed by political theater.


Humanity is one family. Every person holds value, every one has worth, and every one is entitled to the right to life, to liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—including the criminal, the immigrant, and the addict—even the person who gets on your nerves and mine. No one should ever be cut down in violence or stripped of dignity in the public square because of their opinion. No one. No one should ever be murdered for the color of their skin—regardless of race, creed, or nationality. No one.


Not one.


I know there are voices rising now saying, “We are no longer one. We haven't been for a long time" And while I share the grief and outrage that gives birth to those words, we are one. We are one world, one humanity. We just are. I do not dismiss these cries, for they come from broken hearts that are justified by another rhetoric that is just as bitter and maddening. But I must also say: if we give ourselves over to those emotions, then the house will surely fall.

We must confront evil ideologies, yes, whatever side of the aisle, but we must never abandon the greater foundational truth — that the Creator made us as one world, one humanity, and only diplomacy, justice, and reconciliation can heal what rage alone cannot. If the current mindset of fear and violence continues, the passionate and thoughtful discourse set out by our Creator and discovered by our Founders—one built upon eternal truths, mutual dialogue, and philosophy of thought—will be lost.


President Abraham Lincoln warned us plainly: “If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.” He also declared, “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” And in deep humility he confessed, “My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”


Civil and Human Rights

My friends, God is never on the side of those who gun down, stab, or silence His children in the streets. God is never on the side of those who cut, whether with words or by hand. His heart is always for life, for peace, for justice, and for reconciliation.“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).


Every one has a seat at HIs table. Every. One.


TAC and I therefore call upon our leaders, upon every cultural leader and social media influencer—which includes YOU—to rise to this moment with wisdom, with clarity, and with peace. Not anger. Not rage. But wisdom - true wisdom - rooted in truth and mutual respect.


“Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.” - James 3:17 (MSG)


Let us champion dialogue instead of death and division, diplomacy instead of destruction, and dignity instead of derision. Let us stand as living examples of unity, peace, and moral courage.


Our country was built upon the declaration of certain inalienable rights, of which would become very beginning of our current law of international human rights. Thomas Jefferson and his peers spoke with passion to unite a fledgling people around eternal truths. Today, TAC and I join in with that same voice - that these truths are indeed self-evident: "ALL men [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness., - Declaration of Independence, 1776 and that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”  Universal Declaration of Human Rights.


It is our hope that moving forward, each of us chooses daily to return to these truths, and in so doing, honor both our Creator's heart for humanity and the vision that gave birth to this country—and to the shared hope of nations—that these truths are indeed self-evident: that ALL people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, and that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.


For we ARE One.
